PUBLICATIONS FROM IBEC RESEARCH INSTITUTE-IRI

Approximately 3 years ago agronomists Fernando Penteado Cardoso and Jose Peres Romero combined their copies of publications from IBEC Research Institute – IRI to compose and donate a complete set to the library of Escola Superior de Agricultura Luis de Queiroz (Higher Agriculture School) – ESALQ-USP.

Among the publications now digitalized we call special attention to Bulletins 13, 21, 27 and 29, published between 1958 and 1963. These issues give accounts of experiments on the recovery of the cerrado land, to make fertile the soils that were then considered useless for agriculture. Other works deal with diverse fertility and livestock issues, which were debated and evaluated between 1955 and 1975, when the institution was active in Brazil.

These works are part of the Brazilian agronomic history. They are endeavors of the utmost importance, elaborated in collaboration with IAC, the Agronomic Institute of Campinas, and with ESALQ-USP, well before the Ministry of Agriculture amalgamated its various ag research institutes into a single federal agency, Embrapa.

The Brazilian ag and livestock industries are much indebted to the IRI – then located in Matao, Sao Paulo -- and to its sponsors, the Rockefeller brothers. One may confirm this fact by checking the CD, copies of which may be requested from the Agrisus Foundation or:
