The climate, the economy, the man,
All of them change as time goes by.
Not the land !
It is permanent, thus deserving
our attention, zeal and devotion.
WORLD SOIL DAY-5TH DECEMBER
In 2002, the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) made a resolution to propose the 5th of December as the World Soil Day to honour His Majesty the King of Thailand for his promotion of soil science and soil resources conservation. The 5th of December is the birthday of His Majesty. Since then the IUSS has initiated various activities to proclaim the 5th December as the World Soil Day. The World Soil Day will be used to advocate the use and need of soils for human survival and its sustainable management. We aim to draw more attention for the natural resource on which all life depends: the soil!
SOIL CONSERVATION DAY-15TH APRIL
Federal Law No 7876, dated November 13, 1989, has established April 15 as National Soil Conservation Day. This date was chosen because it is the day that Hugh Hammond Bennett (1881- 1960) was born, a man believed to be the founding father of soil conservation in the United States. According to the Law"s introduction, this day is dedicated to "reflecting on soil conservation and usage to help maintain and improve production capacity, increasing food production in a sustainable manner, without degrading the environment". Soil conservation "includes suitable usage and handling of its chemical, physical and biological characteristics in order to maintain the soil or support its recuperation."
