Fernando de Mesquita Sampaio, chief sustainability officer of ABIEC, is an agronomic engineer who graduated from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo – ESALQ/USP (1997) and holds a specialist degree in meat and dairy market from École Supérieure d’Agriculture d’Angers in France. He worked in the international meat market in France at Société des Viandes Bretagne Anjou – Soviba and Meat Import Zandbergen Brothers B.V. In 2009, he undertook the sustainability coordination of the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association – ABIEC and became Executive Officer from 2011 to 2016, working in the institutional representative office of the sector, international negotiations, trade promotion, and, at the same time, continuing the sustainability agenda. In October 2016, he undertook the position of Executive Officer of the Strategy “Produce, Preserve, Include,” a judicial sustainability initiative of the State of Mato Grosso, and as of February 2023, he returned to ABIEC as Chief Sustainability Officer.

Manoel Elpidio Pereira de Queiroz, agribusiness superintendent of Banco Alfa de Investimentos, is an agronomic engineer who graduated from ESALQ/USP (1986) and specialized in Total Quality and Business Agriculture from UFLA and holds an MBA in Corporate Finance from the Institute of Education and Research – Insper. He was an executive of Banco Noroeste, BBA Creditanstalt, Itaú BBA, Votorantim, and Rabobank, always working on financing and the organization of financial solutions for the Brazilian agribusiness. During his career, he published several papers in the specialized media and gave countless lectures to executives and businesspeople throughout Brazil. Member of the Superior Council of Agribusiness of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo – FIESP/COSAG, the Advisory Council of the Association of Alumni of ESALQ – ADEALQ, and partner of the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance – IBGC. In December 2021, he received the Mastercana Award, intended for the most influential people in the sugar-ethanol industry.

Liège Vergili Correia (Officer) is an agriculture engineer (F08) who graduated from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo – ESALQ/USP. She has been working as Chief Sustainability Officer of JBS since 2021. From 2016 to 2021, worked as executive officer of the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association – ABIEC. Since her graduation, most of her professional activities focused on animal husbandry, both beef and dairy cattle. Liegè started her journey in the Animal Husbandry team of the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics – CEPEA. For two years, she worked in the office of Bovine Cattle of BRF (formerly Sadia), specifically in the Pricing field. Next, she worked for JBS in the field of business strategy, coordinated by the former Minister, Mr. Pratini de Moraes. After this period, she was invited to start project management at ABIEC in 2010, where she stayed for three years. After that, she left ABIEC to be part of the consulting firm Agroconsult in the animal husbandry division, where she stayed for four years until returned to ABIEC at the end of 2016.

Luís Reynaldo Ferracciú Alleoni (Officer) is an agronomic engineer who graduated in 1985 from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo – ESALQ/USP and holds a Master’s (1992) and Doctor’s (1996) degree in Soils and Plant Nutrition, becoming associate professor in Soil Chemistry (2000) at ESALQ/USP, with a Postdoctoral Degree from the University of Florida (2005/2006). He has a 1A Productivity in Research Scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development – CNPq, is Full Professor of the Department of Soil Sciences, Coordinator of the SolloAgro Continuing Education Program on Sustainable Agriculture, Coordinator of the Multi-user Laboratory for Environmental Analyses of ESALQ/USP, Scientific Officer of Fundação Agrisus, and Member of the Deliberative Council of the Institute of Advanced Studies at USP. Luís was Head of the Department of Soil Sciences, Chairman of the Teaching Activity Committee, the Partnership Committee, and the Culture and Continuing Education Committee of ESALQ, Coordinator of the Continuing Education Courses Chamber of USP, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Scientia Agricola, and Vice-President of the Brazilian Association for Education and Culture – ABEC. Carlos is an undergraduate in Agronomic Engineering from the College of Agronomic Sciences of the São Paulo State University – FCA/UNESP-Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil (1993). He holds a Master’s and Doctor’s degree in Agronomy, respectively, in 1999 and 2003, from FCA/UNESP-Botucatu through a Postgraduate Degree program in Energy in Agriculture. He currently works as a 3rd Associate Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Sinop, where he is also Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – ICCA/CUS/UFMT. Carlos acted as the Dean of the Course in Agronomy/ICAA/CUS between 2010-2014 and 2018- 2020. In the first semester of 2020, he worked as the Manager of the Graduate Program and Continuing Education of the Campus. He carried out research in the agronomic field with an emphasis on the use of waste as a source of nutrients, conservation, and soil physics.

José is an agronomic engineer who graduated from the College of Agricultural Science of the Federal University of Lavras – ESAL/UFLA (1986), holds a Master’s Degree in Soils and Plant Nutrition from ESAL (1991), a Ph.D. in Soil Sciences from the Michigan State University, USA (1997), and a Postdoctoral Degree from the Michigan State University (2015). He worked for Manah S/A in 1987 as a supervisor. He is a Full Professor of the Department of Soils at Unesp-Jaboticabal, working in the Soil Physics and Management field. Also has a Productivity in Research Scholarship from the CNPq. Scientific Consultant of several development agencies, scientific journals, and governmental and private entities. Member of the Brazilian Society of Soil Sciences, the American Society of Soil Sciences, and the International Union of Soil Sciences. José instructed more than 45 undergraduate students (undergraduate research scholarships), 14 Master’s students, 19 Doctor’s students, and supervised two postdoctoral students. He is author of papers in national and international journals, book chapters, and several papers published in national and international scientific conference proceedings. Subject Coordinator for Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He worked as a dean of the Department of Soils. He worked as a supervisor of the Experimental Farms of Education, Research, and Production (FEPE) at Unesp-Jaboticabal. He was a member of the Councils of the Postgraduate Programs in Agronomy, Crop Production, and Soil Sciences. He worked as a Director of Division 3 – Soil Use and Management and Coordinator of the Committee 3.3 – Soil and Water Management and Conservation of the Brazilian Society of Soil Sciences. Maurício is an agronomic engineer (graduated from the Federal University of Santa Maria – UFSM, 2006-2011), Bachelor of Business Administration (Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC, 2007-2012), Master’s Degree in Agronomy (Graduate Program (PPG) in Agronomy: Agriculture and Environment – UFSM, 2011-2013), Doctor’s Degree in Science, concentration area of Soils and Plant Nutrition (Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo – ESALQ/USP, 2013-2016). He worked as a visiting researcher at the United States Department of Agriculture – USDA in the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment – NLAE, Ames-IA, USA (2015). Postdoctoral Degree (2016-2018) at the Center of Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (CENA/USP) – Environmental Biogeochemical Laboratory. He also provides guidance in the Graduate Program in Soils and Plant Nutrition (ESALQ/USP) and coordinates the Soil Health and Management Research Group – SOHMA. Teaches in Agronomic Engineering, Forest Engineering, and Environmental Management courses. His researches aim to quantify and understand land use impacts and management practical on soil health, carbon dynamics, and provision of ecosystem services in natural and agricultural ecosystems. He travelled 23 countries and has been actively participating in scientific cooperation networks (projects and/or publications) alongside researchers of different Brazilian (e.g. the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials – CNPEM, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS, Rural Federal University of Pernambuco – UFRPE, Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG, State University of Maringá – UEM, Federal University of Santa Maria – UFSM, State University of Campinas – Unicamp, Embrapa, among others) and foreign institutions, including from United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Colombia, and Japan. He is the vice director of the Center for Carbon Research in Tropical Agriculture – CCARBON (Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Centers – CEPID/FAPESP) He is researcher of the Research Center for Greenhouse Gas Innovation – RCGI (FAPESP- Shell) and deputy director of the Nature Based Solutions (NBS) programme. He received the Fundação Bunge – Juventude Award in 2022 (Agricultural Sciences – “carbon credits and regenerative agriculture”). Also has a Productivity in Research Scholarship from the CNPq. He is listed as one of the most influential researchers in world science and is Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.

His area of teaching and research expertise is Soil Fertility and Fertilization. His projects focus on fertilizer management and fertilization in succession of crops, dynamics of phosphorus in the soil in production systems involving cover crops and management, and use and cycling of environmental waste as sources of nutrients for plants.

He graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the College of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences from UNESP/Jaboticabal in 1986 and in Forest Engineering from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, Piracicaba, in 1994. He also completed his Master’s degree in Soils and Plant Nutrition in 2003 from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture. He granted the Doctor’s degree in Soil Sciences from École Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier (France) in 1999. Valter also taught undergraduate courses of Agronomy and Forest Engineering at University of Taubaté – UNITAU and the College of Agronomy and Forest Engineering – FAEF in Garça. He worked with product research and development in foliar fertilizer manufacturers. Between 2009 and 2018, he worked as the Deputy Director of the International Plant Nutrition Institute – IPNI (Brazil Program). He currently works as a professor of the specialist degree of the SolloAgro Program at ESALQ/USP and scientific coordinator of the Nutrients for Life Foundation. Valter also works as a technical collaborator for Nutrição de Plantas Ciência e Tecnologia – NPCT.
